(04/25/24) Area 3 Meeting Report
Good morning neighbors!
Last night was the USD meeting for Area 3.
Here is a report from yours truly.
(Some of this is paraphrasing as I wasn't recording exact language. Any who attended, feel free to chime in with corrections!)
** 8 residents attended (not including myself/husband b/c we are going to all the meetings)
**9 IHCC board members were present
QUESTIONS ASKED BY THE AUDIENCE:
**QUESTION- "What happens if IHCC dissolves. Will taxes for the properties be passed on to the neighborhood?"
ANSWER- No, IHCC will still be liable for the taxes despite being defunct. If not paid after a certain amount of time, the properties would go up for public auction. Whoever purchases the properties would be liable for the unpaid taxes.
**QUESTION - What other options are there besides the USD?
ANSWER- The board has done extensive research and believes the USD is the best option.
**QUESTION - What amenities are currently available to residents?
ANSWER - The tennis courts are for members only. We love for folks to use the walking trails. While you should be a member to use the park, trails, etc. no one is stopping anyone from using them.
STATEMENTS MADE BY THE AUDIENCE:
"I live on a fixed income. My husband passed away a year ago. I can't afford $8.50 per month."
"I moved here about a year ago and had no idea about the park, lakes, amenities."
"We've lived here many years, grandkids used the pool."
"I think $8.50 per month is a reasonable price to keep the amenities for our neighborhood."
"The 25% registered voters required to submit the USD is the Arkansas law, not a number the board made up."
"It only takes 25% of registered voters (~560) in IH to get this to the City Council but then it takes double that (~1100) to oppose the USD. And opposition only has 30 days to collect signatures once it's submitted. But, IHCC can take as long as they want to collect the 25% to submit."
Some FYI:
**There are ~140'ish homes in "Area 3" as seen in the map.
**Per the registered voter list I received from Pulaski County, there are ~243 registered voters in "Area 3"
**The board said they had been going door to door in Area 3 before the meeting.
**Several folks in Area 3 mentioned (to me) they didn't get their letters and/or got them 3-4 days before the meeting date.
PS -- I tag the board members in my posts so they know this is being discussed and can chime in. I support all voices being heard (even if I don't agree with them) lol
